— Where's a firefighter when you need one?

Vance County firefighters were out on a call Wednesday morning when a kitchen fire started in the Bickett Street fire station, Deputy County Manager Jordan McMillian said Thursday.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but McMillian said something might have been left on the stove when firefighters left in a hurry.

No injuries were reported, but the fire caused about $80,000 in damage.

The station will be closed for about three weeks, and McMillian said firefighters will operate out of two mobile units outside the station.

How long did it take the volunteers to get there? Imagine if it was your house.
