RALEIGH, N.C. — Three townhouses were damaged Wednesday in a large fire that sent flames and smoke pouring through the roof at Pine Ridge Townhomes in Raleigh, authorities said.

Ten people were displaced by the fire and are being assisted by the Red Cross. No one was injured.

Resident Jordan Farrell saw the flames from outside and raced into the building, at 4474 Roller Court, to check on his family.

"I went upstairs (and) it was smoky or whatever. I had to get my sister out," he said.

Then, while firefighters were arriving at the scene, Farrell went door to door to make sure everyone got out OK.

Two units were deemed uninhabitable by fire officials. Another had severe smoke and water damage.

Farrell said he felt grateful that no one was hurt, but was still shaken by losing his possessions.

"That's your life up in flames – everything you own," he said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
