DURHAM, N.C. — Durham firefighters said a Friday afternoon blaze at an apartment complex on East Cornwallis Road damaged at least six units in one building.

Emergency crews responded to the complex at about 1:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from a resident.

No injuries were reported. A damaged fire hydrant delayed crews while they fought the fire. It was brought under control after about 30 minutes.

Firefighters said other units at the Spring Ridge complex had water damage.

Red Cross officials on Saturday were assisting 28 residents of six apartments that were heavily damaged by either fire or water.

Investigators believe the fire started in a shed that was attached to the back of the building, but it is unclear what caused the blaze.

More information will be released when it becomes available.
