Fire damages Raleigh sushi restaurant

Posted May 8, 2013

— A fire that started in the kitchen damaged about 50 percent of a sushi restaurant in Raleigh's Cameron Village Shopping Center early Wednesday, authorities said.

Crews responded to Sushi Gami, at 427 Woodburn Road, about 2 a.m. and quickly contained the fire to the kitchen. Other parts of the restaurant were damaged by water.

No other nearby businesses were damaged, and no injuries were reported.

The Raleigh Fire Department said the fire was an accident.

It doesn't matter what a dictionary says if it is wrong, and it doesn't matter what "most people" think if they are wrong on something that is a fact.

There are many, many types of sushi that are cooked, that HAVE to be cooked. Not to mention they have to cook the rice. So even if it were all raw seafood, they still have to cook the rice, which could lead to burning down a restaurant.

Both online dictionaries I checked mentioned raw seafood in the definition...I think most people associate Sushi with raw seafood. So I am of the snickerers.

Sushi gets is name from the use of sushi rice. Not because its uncooked. I love sushi and many of it is cooked or raw veggies. Like stated below, they fry alot.

"Anyone else find it ironic that a place that makes food with raw ingredients was damaged by fire?"

I hope that almost every restaurant uses raw ingredients when making their foods.

But like I already commented, plenty of sushi is cooked. Their menu has plenty of cooked items on it. Mostly fried. Fryers cause fires.

"then it wont be sushi if its cooked"

I take it you've never eaten sushi?

There is plenty of sushi that is cooked. Octopus, eel, omelet, soft shell crab, fake "krab". The list can go on and on.
