Fire damages leasing office at Durham apartment complex

The leasing office of a Durham apartment complex caught fire early Thursday morning.

DURHAM, N.C. — The leasing office of a Durham apartment complex caught fire early Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to the building in the 900 Block of Chalk Level Road before 3:30 a.m. after a burglar alarm was triggered. When firefighters arrived, Durham police were already at the scene.

The single-story building had smoke coming from the roof and fire visible in front. Forty-one firefighters used 18 pieces of equipment to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes.

No one was inside the building at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The building has significant smoke, fire and water damage. Nearby apartment complexes were not affected.

The origin and cause of the fire is still under investigation.
