Fire damages commercial printing facility in Durham

Posted April 18, 2014

— About 30 firefighters spent nearly three hours Friday morning working to extinguish a fire at commercial printing business on Prospectus Drive in Durham.

Crews were dispatched to Valassis at about midnight. When they arrived, they found smoke coming from a roll-up door. It took crews about 40 minutes to locate the source of the fire, which was a printing press inside the 80,000-square-foot facility.

The 41 workers inside escaped the building unharmed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials said it is believed to have been caused by the printing press equipment.
