CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Firefighters from Chapel Hill, Durham, Carrboro and the New Hope Fire Department battled a smoky blaze in a home on Deming Drive, east of downtown, Thursday morning.

Smoke and fire were showing from the multistory house at 421 Deming Drive when firefighters arrived. No one was inside at the time, they said, and no injuries to firefighters were reported.

It took crews almost two hours to get the fire under control.

Tax records show the house is owned by Timothy and Marilyn Smith. Officials said was a relatively new home. It sits on a little more than an acre of wooded land off East Franklin Street.
