— Firefighters from several local departments responded to a fire early Friday at Pitchers Bar in Benson, Johnston County officials said.

Crews responded to the restaurant, which is in the 1900 block of North Wall Street near Interstate 40, about 5:30 a.m.

The bar's roof collapsed as a result of the fire, and officials said the building was a total loss. Investigators said the accidental fire started because of an electrical issue in the ceiling or attic.

The place will certainly be missed. Clayton Pitcher and I worked very hard to keep Pitchers clean and respectable. Now to clarify your misconceptions. First, Pitchers bar is never open during school hours. Weekday hours begin at 4:00 pm. Never once has the school had any interactions with Pitchers, never any problems what so ever. Second, the bar owner DID NOT OWN THE BUILDING and the ceilings were built too low for sprinklers.
Now, are you aware of all the money raised via Pitchers that went to members of the community?? Your comments are ignorant. I'm amazed by the heartlessness. Do you realize that families depended on their job at Pitchers to support their children??? I guess the people who don't want the bar back will be more than happy to provide clothing, food, and shelter to those of us who now have no income.

Hey,hey, I was drunk in a bar and they threw me into public.

Now the patrons will be drunk in public instead of drunk in a bar.
