<b>BENSON, N.C.</b> — North Carolina Highway 50 was closed in both directions north of Benson for about four hours early Sunday while firefighters battled a blaze at a house in the 6000 block.

The fire started just after 4 a.m., and deputies from the Johnston County Sheriff's Office had the road blocked off through the 8 o'clock hour to allow emergency vehicles easy access.

A spokesman said the fire was out by 8 a.m. and that firefighters were just treating hot spots by that time.
