Fire Chief's Car Stolen, Recovered After Chase

A vehicle owned by Southern Pines and used by the town's fire chief was stolen Thursday morning, police said.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — A vehicle owned by the town and used by the fire chief was stolen Thursday morning, police said.

The 2001 Dodge Durango was left unlocked and was stolen from the 100 block of Southeast Broad Street at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday, police said. The vehicle is valued at about $10,000, police said.

The Durango was spotted in Red Springs at about 10 p.m. Thursday and was recovered after a brief chase, police said. The thief fled the area on foot, police said.

Police have no suspects in the case.
