Fire causes power outage in southern Wake County

Power lines caught fire in southern Wake County Monday night, knocking out power to about 1,800 Progress Energy customers, the utility said.

APEX, N.C. — Power lines caught fire in southern Wake County Monday night, knocking out power to about 1,800 Progress Energy customers, the utility said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Parts of Cary and Apex were affected, the utility said. Power was restored to all but about 500 people by midnight.

Crews hoped to have power restored to everyone by 2 a.m.
