— Two Raleigh families were displaced from a duplex on Arckelton Drive early Friday after fire ripped through the building, authorities said.

Investigators believe the fire, which started around 2 a.m. at 4016 Arckelton Drive, was caused by a cigarette. As many as 30 firefighters responded to the call.

In total, seven people were forced from the duplex, but nobody was injured.

Red Cross officials were called in to assist the families. No other information was released.

"Smokers that try to convince people they only smoke outside their homes are only fooling themselves. Excellent in theory problematic in practice." cynda-ur-way

LOL! What? Yes, yes, you are an obvious authority on everyone else's lives. Good to know.

XARABELLE: Didn's jump to any conclusion, facts were stated by the fire investigaters that the "fire was caused by a cigarette". Remember the fire that destroyed all those homes off Capital Blvd. a few years ago? Same thing, cigaretta tossed into some pine straw by a careless smoker. That's why there's now restrictions on using pine straw as landscaping around homes.

Let's hope these two families are resettled soon. Glad to hear that nobody was injured.

Way to jump to conclusions there Stormy13. Assume all you want this could have been due to faulty electricity> I lived on that street before and the homes there were of very poor construction.

Another reason why I wish to live in a non-smoking residence. Way too many careless people out there when it comes to their cigarette butts and where they throw them! Just look at all the "litter" at the curb the next time you're at a stop light. Senseless and thoughtless, that's why there are still ashtrays in cars.
