HELSINKI — Authorities in Finland have arrested a neo-Nazi activist accused of killing a 28-year-old man during a demonstration in Helsinki.
The Helsinki District Court on Wednesday remanded the 26-year-old suspect in custody on suspicion of homicide and assault.
The suspect is accused of assaulting the victim who reportedly spat on the ground in front of members of the Finnish Resistance Movement at a demonstration on Sept. 10. The victim was hospitalized after hitting his head on the ground. He died of his injuries six days later.
The neo-Nazi group admits the victim was "confronted" during the rally but denies any wrongdoing. Police didn't release names of the victim or the suspect.
The incident has been widely condemned by politicians and local media with calls for banning racist and extreme organizations.
