If you've been to Pullen Park in the last couple of weeks or so, you may have noticed some closures.

Here's the latest:

The carousel has been closed a bit for a variety of work, including some touch-up painting, re-varnishing and repair on the animals, recreation program director Richard Costello tells me. Annual inspections and a tuning of the band organ also are part of the work. The carousel will reopen Friday, Feb. 8.

The train closed this week and will be closed through Feb. 28. The city completes detailed daily inspections and maintenance, Costello said. But more thorough preventative maintenance is required to make sure the rides are available the rest of the year.

The kiddie boats also will be closed this month from Feb. 11 to Feb. 21.

The playground remains open throughout all of the closures. And Pullen Place, the cafe, which has been closed most of January for some work on the building, also is reopening Friday.

The hours for the rides at Pullen Park are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily. The playground and grounds are open from dawn to dusk.

Costello tells me that work is nearly complete on the city's other carousel at Chavis Park. I'll have more on that soon. And he said the city is working to plan an exciting season of summer concerts and other events at both Pullen and Chavis.

Stay tuned!
