Triangle restaurant news (Dec. 20, 2013)

RALEIGH, N.C. — We love Chubby's Tacos and they need your help in finding a new name! owner Joseph Lytton says they are looking to expand into Cary next year and eventually franchise into other states. The only problem is that the name Chubby's is already owned by a restaurant out of Colorado. That's where you come in. Head to any of Chubby's four Triangle area locations to grab an entry form or email your name suggestions to jody@chubbystacos.com. Lytton said he is looking for a name that "rolls off the tongue" and is fun. Something that makes you want to eat there. And it can't be any variation of Chubby's, so Chubbees or even the Spanish translation of the word is out. Before you submit your suggestion, make sure the name is available through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. If your name is selected, you could win free tacos for a year. 

Gonza Tacos y Tequila has opened its Wake Forest location, according to our good friend WRAL reporter and weekend morning anchor Sloane Heffernan. Gonza's latest location is on South Main Street not far from The Factory. They already have a very successful location on Lead Mine Road in Raleigh and have made our Five Faves list twice - for best tacos and best Mexican food.

Bull City Burger and Brewery's sister restaurant Pompieri Pizza is inching closer to opening. The restaurant, which is located in the historic Fire Station No. 1 across from Durham's city hall on Mangum Street, has passed all inspections and is currently hiring cooks, food runners and cashiers, according to their Facebook page. 

The Oakz, a new American restaurant, is coming to the 510 Glenwood South building in Raleigh early next year. The News and Observer first reported about this new venture from Ira Freedman and his daughter Jaclyn Starritt. It will reportedly serve items like bison burgers, stuffed pork and salmon and jambalya pasta. They are currently hiring for all staff positions.

Beer news! Union Square Brewery is planning to open its door in April in the Five Points neighborhood of downtown Raleigh, according to GadaboutFood.com. 

New Raleigh is reporting that Indian Cuisine Kabab and Curry will open in the space formerly occupied by Klara's on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. 

Triangle Food Guy is reporting that the folks behind Bavarian Brothers in Durham will be opening a new German restaurant in Cary. German Grille is expected to be in the Harrison Pointe Shopping Center in the spot formerly occupied by Great Mongolian Grill. 

Sup Dogs is coming to Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. According to the restaurant's website, they will be moving to the old Pepper's Pizza location early next year. They are known for their exotic hot dogs and burgers. They also have a fully stocked bar. Sup Dogs has another location in Greenville so ECU students know this place very well. 

Some sad news: Casbah in Durham is hosting its last concert on New Year's Eve. The bash is $15 a ticket and will feature Peter Lamb and the Wolves. The venue is being converted into a bar with vintage arcade and pinball games next month. 

Reminder: The new food truck Dump Pho King is set to begin operation in April. They will serve Asian-inspired cuisine centered around dumplings and pho. They currently have a Kickstarter campaign going.
