— Two West Johnston High School students allegedly brawling in video posted on YouTube now face charges in the fight.

Tiffany Lynn Hurley, 16, of Angier, and McKenzie Leigh Wheeler, 16, of Clayton were charged this week with one count each of disorderly conduct and simple affray. Both were out of jail Friday on $1,000 bonds.

The YouTube video, which has been removed from the site, was apparently recorded from a cell phone and shows two girls fighting while other teens surround them cheering and laughing.

Experts say such video on social networking sites is becoming more common and has become a reflection of how teens communicate.

Cool - unfortunately, hollywood and the TV show cops gives very bad legal advice. Its the same about reading Miranda warnings, etc...they are not always required and never required just to arrest someone. Aside from obvious crimes - if we did not see it as it happened then its "here's directions to the magistrates office, have a nice day" Regardless of the "well I got witnesses" argument...I then tell them, "here are directions to the magistrate, take all your witnesses, have a nice day." 10-8

Trublue - "If the officer views an assault occur in his presence - we can legally affect an arrest."

    Interesting, thanks!!!

Guess I'll have to mind my Ps & Qs then. ;o)

    God bless.

Rev - In this state there really is no "well I wanna press charges" in relation to assaults. If the officer views an assault occur in his presence - we can legally affect an arrest. If not, and there is physical evidence that one has occured and we can locate the suspect within 12 hrs - we can legally affect an arrest. Regardless of what the other person "wants" to do. If not, the victim proceeds to a magistrate and presents the facts for either a warrant or summons to court. Its the magistrates call.

Didn't know it was against the law for two people to engage in a fight, unless one of them was unwilling and pressed charges against the other.

    Clarify please.

    God bless.

"And aren't these girls minors? Why are they reporting their names and putting up their photos"

ummm nope, not minors. The legal age for arrest and incarceration within the state is 16. Therefore, names, age, etc is freely plastered - Aint it great!!! I love it when they smart off and tell me "i'm 16, blah blah blah and you can't do nothing about it.." Thats when I pay homage to the WCPSS SRO program and introduce them to Mr. XM19 and his buddy Mr. 50,000.

So, let me get this straight: these two chicks got arrested for being filmed while fighting. How dare they not know they were being recorded on Youtube. Even if they did, so what, who cares? So stupid.

  • kbo0801 Oct 3, 2008

You tube will get anyone arrested as long as you post it. These kids today are so eager to be seen that they will put anything up. Who cares if they were arrested? They'll fight again so keep them locked up.

    Jimmycrackcorn:

Their photos were already shown publicly on YouTube

Stupid. Why you gonna charge two teens for fighting??? As long as no one gets really hurt and they make up or agree to disagree, no harm no foul. Again, stupid.
