Tickets are going crazy fast for The Lion King, which stops at the Durham Performing Arts Center in February and March.

The tickets went on sale to the public on Saturday, but thousands purchased them before the public with pre-sale codes. Because of the high demand, DPAC announced Sunday that the show will be extended a week, adding 21,000 new seats for those who hope to nab a ticket or two.

The show now will run from Feb. 16 to March 20.

This touring production of The Lion King has been seen by more than 15 million theatergoers and grossed more than $1 billion to date. It's been to the Triangle before (and I've heard fantastic reviews!).

Tickets are on sale now through DPAC and Ticketmaster. DPAC's website has the details.
An important note from DPAC: "Ticket buyers are reminded that DPAC and Ticketmaster are the only official retail ticket outlets for all performances at DPAC. Ticket buyers who purchase tickets from a ticket broker or any third party should be aware that DPAC is unable to reprint or replace lost or stolen tickets and is unable to contact patrons with information regarding time changes or other pertinent updates regarding the performance."

Tickets start at $33 plus taxes and fees.
