Teen charged in Moore County hit-and-run

Southern Pines police charged an 18-year-old Wednesday in a hit-and-run crash that sent a 56-year-old pedestrian to the hospital with serious injuries.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Southern Pines police charged an 18-year-old Wednesday in a hit-and-run crash that sent a 56-year-old pedestrian to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to investigators, Christopher Ignatius Dejak hit the unidentified woman at about 9 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Hardin Street in Southern Pines. The woman was leaving a town council meeting at the Douglas Community Center, officials said.

Dejak was charged with felony hit-and-run and taken to the Moore County jail, where he was placed under a $5,000 secured bond.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was airlifted to UNC Hospitals. No other information about the crash was available.
