RALEIGH, N.C. — A convicted felon from Greene County was arrested Friday in Raleigh on a charge of attempted murder.

James Michael Smith, 33, of 402 Chelsea Drive, Snow Hill, was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon after he allegedly used a firearm to attack a man last week, according to arrest warrants.

The warrants do not offer a motive or say how Smith knew the victim.

The firearm charge, according to the warrants, was issued because Smith was convicted in 2006 on a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Smith was jailed under a $550,000 bond Sunday evening and was expected to make his first court appearance Monday morning.
