The second annual Clear the Shelter event comes to central North Carolina Saturday, as eight local animal shelters agree to waive adoption fees from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in order to help pets find new homes.
WRAL-TV is proud to partner with the SPCA of Wake County, Wake County Animal Center, SAFE Haven for Cats, Orange County Animal Services, Moore County Animal Center, Durham Animal Protection Society, Edgecombe County Animal Shelter, Person County Animal Services.

In its first year, Clear the Shelters saw nearly 20,000 pets find new homes through an unprecedented partnership between NBCUniversal-owned television stations and hundreds of animal shelters located all across the country and in Puerto Rico. The nationwide day of action literally emptied dozens of animal shelters across the country and inspired local communities to take action and open their homes to animals in need.

This year, the goal is even greater.

As the animals find their new families, follow along on Twitter with the hashtag #ClearTheShelters and #WRAL. On Instagram, use #SHELfie to share a photo of you and your own shelter pet.
