A federal program allowing the uninsured to file claims for COVID-19 vaccines ends next week.

11:59 p.m. April 5 is the last minute uninsured people can file claims for COVID-19 boosters and vaccines.

The federal program previously making this possible has a lack of funds to keep it going.

The problem for many people: the CDC has recommended a second COVID-19 booster for people ages 50 and up and people at a greater risk for severe disease from COVID-19.

The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration said those that fall in that category and are uninsured can look to Medicaid enrollment, enroll in the Healthcare.gov marketplace, look to COVIDtests.gov or go to the HRSA.gov website to find a health center.

The HRSA said if you file a claim before April 5th the claim should be paid as it relates to its eligibility and availability of funds left in the federal program.

Local health departments could still be providing no-insurance-needed vaccinations. Wake County, for example, is doing that.
