— The FBI is investigating allegations of illegal wiretapping at the state Division of Motor Vehicles, officials said Friday.

Investigators are looking into allegations that wiretapping technology was in place while George Tatum was DMV commissioner from 2003 to 2007, officials said. Agents want to know whether DMV managers eavesdropped on employees' phone conversations.

Tatum couldn't be reached Friday for comment.

"Agents want to know whether DMV managers eavesdropped on employees' phone conversations." Assuming they are talking about the work place, what is the issue? The facilities including phones are the property of the employer. My employer records all external phone calls, incoming or outgoing. It is policy.

It's illegal if the employee is not informed that the phone conversation is being recorded. The issue was the employees were not informed of being recorded, that's illegal.

I wouldn't be surprise if he did. It's strange how top folk can get away with just about anything criminally wrong; and for whatever reason seem to go into hiding, can't be located, can't remember and/or don't recall, and the biggie of them all, "we have a zero tolerance for bad behavior". Yet, they are the very ones doing wrong. What a shame. I don't think we need to vote anyone else into office - it's becoming apparent they can't do their jobs of ensuring policy/rules are adhered to. But if they are busy breaking the rules, perhaps that's why they are not doing their jobs.
