Fayetteville woman shot, dog killed in home invasion

Posted July 10, 2011

— Three men broke into a Fayetteville house early Sunday, shot a 23-year-old woman and killed a dog, police said.

The men forced their way into a home at 6498 Green Meadow Road around 2 a.m. and demanded that three residents hand over some property, police said. The men were wearing all dark clothing and bandannas over their faces.

They shot Lindsay Sherbet, injuring her, and shot and killed a dog, then fled, police said.

Sherbet was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where hospital officials said she was in fair condition.

Anyone who saw people matching the description of the suspects leaving the area of Green Meadow and Strickland Bridge roads early Sunday was asked to call Fayetteville police at 910-433-1529 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for anonymous tips that solve cases.

I have said many times, and will say it many more times, home invasion should be a capital offense. You say what you would do if they came in on you. I've got some pretty good fire power, but I doubt seriously I would be able to get to it if they burst in. Just a comment.

Can't just leave a 45 laying around with grand children visiting.

I was once held up at gunpoint by two men. They were hiding behind a car and grabbed me from behind. One immobilized me and held a gun to my neck while the other rifled through my bag. I'm glad I didn't have a gun because they would have taken it, or worse. Most criminals are cowards and won't come at you head on. They'll wait until you are sleeping and bust into your house, or sneak up behind you. I have no problem with people being legally armed, but I do have an issue with both sides of the fence always taking shots about what would have happened if...
The REAL issue here is that this woman will never feel safe again, armed or unarmed. The mental damage will be much worse than the physical damage. She will never sleep well and she will always be looking over her shoulder.

This is why people need to arm themselves, and get proper training in personal defense. I hope the perps are caught soon.

If three people break into my home and shoot my wife or dog, they will be amazed at the amount of return gunfire that comes back at them.
