FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Several Triangle movie houses are among 300 theaters nationwide to show "The Interview" after Sony Pictures reversed its decision to shelve the film in the face of terror threats.

The Northgate Stadium 10 in Durham, Fayetteville's Cameo Art House Theatre, Palace Pointe in Roxboro and the Smithfield 10 in Smithfield all plan to screen the comedy about a plot to kill North Korea's leader. The movie opens Thursday.

After receiving online threats about "The Interview," Sony executives decided last week not to release it nationwide. The studio, which was criticized by President Barack Obama, actors and others as caving in to censorship, said Tuesday that it would offer the movie in limited settings and via digital download, including Google Play, YouTube Movies, Microsoft's Xbox Video and a separate Sony website..

Nasim Kuenzel, who owns the Cameo in downtown Fayetteville with her husband, said they actively pursued "The Interview" once it became available.

"They called us back in a couple of hours and said, 'When do you want to open it?' and I said, 'When will it be available?' They said, 'We would love to have some shows starting (Thursday),' and I said, 'I think we can do that,'" Kuenzel said.

She said she isn't worried about the threats and called the film's release a victory for free speech.

"We should be standing for freedom of expression, and I think an independent theater is a great place to convey that message," she said.

The Cameo seats only 125 or so people, and Kuenzel said the buzz about the movie should have the theater packed.

"We've had lots of interest on Facebook and phone calls and emails," she said. "I think it should be fun."

The movie will show at 2 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Other show times this weekend can be found on the theater's website. "The Interview" will be at the Cameo for about two weeks.
