— A Cumberland County elementary teacher was dismissed for inappropriate contact with a student, schools spokeswoman Theresa Perry said Wednesday.

Andrew Moore, 33, of the 5800 block of Century Oaks Drive in Fayetteville, was charged in April with multiple counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and taking indecent liberties with a student.

Police said that Moore inappropriately touched a 10-year-old student during class in February and March at T.C. Berien Elementary School and that witnesses reported the acts to school administrators.

Perry said the Cumberland County Board of Education passed a consent agenda this week that included Moore's dismissal from his job as a fifth-grade teacher at T.C. Berrien Elementary.

"hoe come we never hear the school itself being sued for this?"
I suspect they settle pretty quickly.

"Gee - what would the demands be if this had been another Catholic priest? Lynching? - yet teachers (not including others in the field of child work, such as scout leaders and coaches) have roughly 100x more occurrence of child abuse according to insurance industry stats. You'll never hear about most incidents, however, because teachers are usually allowed to resign quietly rather than face public scandal."

Uh, what are you talking about? The Catholic priest scandal was covered up and ignored for how long? Decades, wasn't it? And what types of vigilante justice do you see being suggested here, about this teacher who has not been convicted? Let's see...
"If the 10 year old child was mine, he'd have bigger problems than worrying about being dismissed from his job..."
"If it were my 10 year old? lets just say his so called problem would be a minor thing,, There might be a trial but it would not be his,,,"

People who continue to whine about a teacher's union in North Carolina just prove over and over how ignorant they are, or perhaps they are unable to grasp and maintain basic concepts.

  • FAN72 Jun 16, 2011

There is not a teachers union in the state of North Carolina. The NCAE is an Association, not a union. It has no power to negotiate not to go on strike.

  • corgimom06 Jun 16, 2011

smbiz-when has the teacher's union or ACLU ever come to the defense of a teacher that has molested children?
