FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A woman accidentally shot her husband Friday morning after he unexpectedly returned home and set off the house alarm, Fayetteville police said.

The man, a Fort Bragg soldier, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with a superficial gunshot wound to the chest. Police said he was in stable condition and expected to be released Friday afternoon.

The incident happened about 10:15 a.m. at the couple’s home on Christian Street in Fayetteville.

Investigators said Tiffany Segule, 27, set the house alarm after her husband, Zia Segule, 28, left for work. He unexpectedly returned home with breakfast, setting off the alarm and waking up his wife, who was asleep in the bedroom.

There had been recent break-ins in the neighborhood, investigators said, and Tiffany Segule armed herself because she thought an intruder was in the house.

Investigators said she shot her husband through the closed bedroom door.

Investigators were still questioning Tiffany Segule on Friday afternoon, but no charges were expected.
