FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police are seeking to identify a man they've dubbed the "Cigarette Robber" after three similar armed robberies were committed last week by a man asking for cigarettes.

Police said that in three separate incidents over 24 hours, a man approached strangers and asked for a cigarette, then revealed a handgun and demanded the victims' valuables. The man stole wallets, cell phones and one pack of cigarettes.

Police said the robberies occurred in the Walmart parking lot at 1550 Skibo Road around 11:35 p.m. Thursday, outside Books-a-Million at 1920 Skibo Road around midnight Thursday, and outside Divine Line Tattoo Shop at 5129 Raeford Road at 2:05 p.m. Friday.

Witnesses at the tattoo shop described him as a black man, approximately 19 years old, 5 feet 8 inches and weighing about 150 pounds. He had short hair and a goatee. He wore a gray shirt and blue shirts.

A witness said he left in a green Jeep Wrangler or Cherokee with another man, police said.
