Fayetteville, N.C. — Fayetteville police said Monday they have charged a 21-year-old man with murder after stopping him while he was driving the victim’s car.
Officers on Sunday were searching for clues in the death of a man found shot and lying on Lamon Street about 8 p.m. They believed the man, identified as David Washington, 37, of Mobile, Ala., was shot elsewhere and taken to Lamon Street.
About two hours later, a sergeant saw the victim’s 2003 Cadillac Deville in the parking lot of the Regency Inn on Ramsey Street.
Police said the sergeant tried to stop the driver, who sped away. The chase ended at a mobile home park on Cattail Circle near the Sapona Road corridor.
Police charged Datorius Lane McLymore, 21, with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony speeding to elude officers. He was held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center and scheduled to make a first court appearance on Tuesday.
Police said Washington had been in Fayetteville for about three weeks and was employed by a company in periodical sales.
