Fayetteville, N.C. — A Fayetteville police officer shot and killed a man early Thursday during a traffic stop.
Police said the officer tried stopping a Ford Explorer near the intersection of Morganton Road and Virginia Avenue shortly after 6 a.m.
But the driver, identified as Nijza Lamar Hagans, 22, kept traveling on South Virginia Avenue before coming to a stop at the dead end of the road.
During the stop, police said, the officer shot Hagans, who died at the scene.
A Fayetteville Police Department spokesman did not say what prompted the shooting.
The officer, whose identity has not been released, has been placed on administrative duty, which is standard in police-involved shootings, while the State Bureau of Investigation investigates.

If you were in his shoes and had been attacked by a armed felon what would you have done? Let him kill you and get away? I think not.
