FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police are investigating the death of a man who they said displayed erratic behavior before suffering a heart attack early Friday morning.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to 432 School St. at about 4 a.m. and found Eugene Gibson, 26, dressed in a T-shirt and pajama bottoms and rolling in the middle of the road, police said. At the request of paramedics, officers held Gibson’s wrists and firefighters held his legs while he was assessed.

It appeared Gibson’s condition improved before he went into cardiac arrest, police said. He was not restrained at the time, police said. Gibson died while enroute to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Police said they did not use force on Gibson other than to restrain him so paramedics examine him.
