Fayetteville police arrest suspect in child's shooting

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police arrested a man in a shooting that happened Tuesday night on Suzanne Street.

Phillip Lawson, 21, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, shooting into occupied property and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury.

Police allege Lawson shot two people – a 9-year-old child and a 19-year-old man – near 302 Suzanne St. at about 7 p.m.

The child was in stable condition Wednesday, recovering from a wound to the head. Anthony Dewayne Hair, 19, of 125 Salmon Drive, was grazed in the cheek by a bullet and has been treated and released.

Police did not provide any additional information.
