FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police determined that a man accused of sexual assault is a police officer, not an impersonator, Officer Dan Grubb said Monday.

A woman told police that Darian Burden, 41, identified himself as a police officer and attempted to sexually assault her Saturday. Burden is not a Fayetteville officer, but he is a police officer at the VA hospital on Ramsey Street.

Burden surrendered to Spring Lake police early Sunday, and Fayetteville police had a chance to question him about the woman's allegation. By Monday afternoon, they had not filed any charges.
