Fayetteville, N.C. — A Cumberland County mother was charged late Thursday after making a false claim that her 8-year-old daughter had been abducted from Lucille Souders Elementary School.
Deputies charged Latasha Michelle Bethea, 28, of Brookstone Lane in Fayetteville, with making an unfounded report to law enforcement officers and resisting, delaying and obstructing justice.
Bethea reported her daughter missing Thursday afternoon, but she was later found safe at her grandmother's house. Deputies spent hours searching for the girl Thursday evening.
Bethea was released from the Cumberland County jail under a $500 bond.
