A Cumberland County mother was charged late Thursday after making a false claim that her 8-year-old daughter had been abducted from Lucille Souders Elementary School.

Deputies charged Latasha Michelle Bethea, 28, of Brookstone Lane in Fayetteville, with making an unfounded report to law enforcement officers and resisting, delaying and obstructing justice.

Bethea reported her daughter missing Thursday afternoon, but she was later found safe at her grandmother's house. Deputies spent hours searching for the girl Thursday evening.

Bethea was released from the Cumberland County jail under a $500 bond.

Why in the world would this mother do this? She put a lot of people to unnecessary trouble. And, then to resist, delay and obstruct justice. Throw her tail in jail and let her think about what she has done.

@jma47,i know what *falsely* means, what i was *trying* to say is that *maybe* she didn't *know* where the *kid* was or had forgotten that *her* mother was getting her and called the cops before thinking *harder* about it--maybe 'falsely' (is that the quotation you were trying to accomplish w/ all those poorly placed asterisks?) is too harsh and she was *merely* mistaken. sounds like *you* are judging by a picture and half a news *story* and, when somebody disputes it-it's time to break out the multiplication symbols bc we're so SERIOUSLY irritated that somebody, for once, thought hey! lets not just assume her guilt based on very little information and NO testimony from the person who actually committed the act!

erderr4533, she was charged for *falsely* claiming her daughter was abducted. What do you not understand about that? She *knew* her daughter was OK. Sounds like she just was *trying* to make trouble and it backfired.

every time someone cries abduction after this, they will get a slight hesitation from the public, and that is the worse of this crime...that doubt, that lesser reaction.

Nothing like a whopping with a, Cat-O-Nine Tails to straighten a dunce. By the way, the $500.00 bond was too low.
