Fayetteville mayor, police chief get White House invite
Chief of Police Harold E. Medlock and Mayor Nat Robertson will participate Thursday in a forum on best practices in community policing.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville's mayor and police chief are headed to the White House. Chief of Police Harold E. Medlock and Mayor Nat Robertson will participate Thursday in a forum on best practices in community policing.
Robertson said he's looking forward to meeting with other city leaders across the country to exchange ideas on how to keep residents safe.
The mayor credited Fayetteville's progress in reducing crime with earning them the invitation.
"For the second year in a row, we're looking at a double-digit decrease in our crime rate, and that is due to, of course, the resources that the City Council has given to the police chief, but also the police chief's initiatives," Robertson said.
Rev. Brian R. Thompson, of Simon Temple AME Zion Church, and Kevin Brooks, a local businessman, are accompanying Medlock and Robertson to the forum.
