Fayetteville man's dying moments streamed online; family pleads for answers

Calvin Blackshire Jr., 27, was gunned down at a Motel 6 in January. Investigators said they have a wealth of evidence in the case, including video of his final moments, but no arrests have been made.

Blackshire’s mother, Pamela Blackshire, said she is outraged that someone live streamed her son’s dying moments on the internet for 10 minutes before help arrived.

“That is despicable and, if that was your brother or your father laying dying on the ground, would you do something like that,” she said.

Police have questioned the person who shot the video and said he is not a suspect in the case.

Blackshire’s family packed the media conference room at police headquarters Thursday afternoon. His mother, sister and the mother of his child stood without expressions while Blackshire’s father held his 1-year-old boy. Pamela Blackshire held up pictures of her son, a young father who she said was just starting to enjoy his life.

“I miss his smile, miss his presence, I miss fussing with him. I miss everything about him,” she said.

Calvin Blackshire’s mother said she doesn’t know why her son went to the Motel 6 on Cedar Creek Road on Jan. 19. Police said they received a 911 call just before midnight alerting them that someone had been shot.

Calvin Blackshire died at the hospital as a result of his wounds.

“We believe it was a robbery, and we believe that we need to find who Calvin was meeting at the hotel that night,” said Sgt. Pedro Orellano with the Fayetteville Police Department.

Police said the killer took Calvin Blackshire’s cell phone and sneakers before fleeing.

While the investigation is at a dead end, a desperate mother pleads for help in finding closure.

“They’ve ruined too many lives and if there’s any decency left in them, could they just turn themselves in,” she pleaded.

Calvin Blackshire's family has set up a Go Fund Me page to try and raise money to increase the Crime Stoppers reward of $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
