DILLSBORO, N.C. — The body of a Fayetteville man who went missing on a tubing trip Thursday afternoon was found a day later in the Tuckasgee River in Jackson County.

CBS affiliate WSPA identified the victim as Allen Brisson, 22, a former Western Carolina University student.

Friends told authorities that Brisson slipped under the water while floating in the water with a group of friends. About 70 people joined in a search, and his body was found about 2 miles downstream, west of Dillsboro, around noon Friday.

Kelli Richmond, spokeswoman for the Jackson County Rescue Squad, told WSPA that Brisson was tubing in an inflatable pool chair and not wearing a lifejacket.

Friends told rescue crews that they had been drinking. An autopsy will have to be done to determine if alcohol played a role in Brisson's death.
