FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County sheriff’s detectives arrested a Fayetteville man Wednesday night and charged him with engaging in sexually inappropriate behavior with a child.

Investigators said Tony Daren Vanord, 46, of 3069 Gillespie St., invited his 6-year-old victim into his home, which was a camper. The contact reportedly occurred between Jan. 20, 2003 and March 1, 2003.

Investigators said the victim did not tell anyone about the incident because Vanord’s camper was parked on property owned by the victim’s grandparents, and their lives had been threatened.

Authorities charged Vanord with taking indecent liberties with a child, crimes against nature and first-degree statutory sex offense.

He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to make a first court appearance at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Detention Center Courtroom.
