Fayetteville man charged with running illegal sweepstakes parlors

Three years after illegal Internet sweepstakes games were seized from five Cumberland County locations, deputies on Wednesday charged a Fayetteville man with running the operation.
Munawar "Mark" Bhatti, 45, of the 2900 block of Westshore Court, was charged with five counts each of operating illegal video games and maintaining a place for illegal video games and one count each of felony conspiracy and continuing criminal enterprise. He was being held in the Cumberland County jail under a $22,500 bond.
Cumberland County deputies shut down sweepstakes parlors at 4251 Legion Road, 3201 Raeford Road, 5175 Clinton Road, 1324 Bragg Blvd. and 3069 Cumberland Road in April 2013 and seized numerous gaming machines.
