FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police arrested a Fayetteville man Friday in connection with an early morning sexual assault, but investigators said the man isn't a suspect in either of two rapes reported last weekend.

A 21-year-old woman told police that she was walking to a friend's house in the vicinity of Preston Drive and Murchison Road shortly after 7 a.m. when a man came up behind her and assaulted her.

The woman was able to provide police with a good description of her attacker, and a man matching the description was arrested a short time later while walking on Preston Drive.

Raymond McFadyen, 33, of Pennsylvania Avenue, was charged with second-degree rape and assault on a female. He was being held in the Cumberland County jail under a $150,000 bond.

A woman was raped Sunday morning near the Department of Social Services office on Ramsey Street, and a second woman was attacked in a park off Bragg Boulevard that afternoon.
