— Police have arrested a Cross Creek Mall worker on charges that he groped a woman applying for a job this week.

A woman flagged down a Fayetteville officer on bike patrol at the mall on Friday to report the incident. She said a man who works at the mall claimed he was hiring her and took her to a back room to fill out additional paperwork on Tuesday.

Once in the room, the man began touching her inappropriately and assaulting her, police said. The woman said she was scared to report the incident originally but decided to come forward to prevent it from happening to others.

After reviewing surveillance video and other evidence in the case, police charged Jose Antonio Cruz, 34, of 2239 Wingate Road, with a second-degree sexual offense, sexual battery and assault on a female.

Cruz was being held under a $10,000 bond at the Cumberland County jail on Friday afternoon.

sunset has a very valid point. Hopefully the surveillance video actually shows the offenses, so this lady has proof. Even if the video doesn't show anything in particular she can still claim an offense and most likely he will be charged whether he is guilty or not. Eventdently not many of you have ever known a liar in your life. I forgot, only men are evil and lie. IF guilty, he should pay.

Hope she has proof. It's too easy for people to get away with this, but just as important, too easy to lie and destroy a mans life with false accusations just for financial gain. Not good either way.

    I'm glad she reported him.

sunsetl - Hope no one you care about is ever groped. You would blame them for what; leading them on. Your comment demonstrates just how clueless people can be.

sunsetlx - "Sounds like that she did not get job and now wants to ruin somebody elses life."

Sounds like you didn't read the part in the story that said the authorities reviewed the surveillance video.

    sigh
