Fayetteville man charged in five robberies; accomplice sought
A Fayetteville man out of prison for four months faces charges in five armed robberies over the past week, as authorities continue to search for his teenaged accomplice in a bank robbery in Hope Mills.

Fayetteville and Hope Mills police credited tipsters for leading them to the arrest of Marvin Rashaad Cummings, 21, of 1220 Weeping Willow Way, on Wednesday. He's charged in connection with five robberies:
- Sunoco, 6022 Raeford Road in Fayetteville, on Oct. 27
- Exxon, 502 Grove St., on Oct. 29
- Shortstop, 3400 Ramsey St. on Oct. 29
- Shortstop, 1208 Bragg Blvd., on Oct. 30
- RBC Centura bank in Hope Mills on Nov. 1

Fayetteville police said they believe that Cummings and his accomplice intended to rob an RBC Bank on Ramsey Street on Oct. 31. However, bank staff thought their behavior was suspicious and called police, causing the men to leave before officers arrived, police said.
Cummings served 4½ years in prison for 2006 convictions for armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, kidnapping and conspiracy, according to state Department of Correction records. He was released in July and was still on parole at the time of his arrest.
