Fayetteville man charged in fatal shooting

A Fayetteville man was arrested Saturday in conneciton with a shooting death in the Shaw Heights subdivision, authorities said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man was arrested Saturday in conneciton with a shooting death in the Shaw Heights subdivision, authorities said.

Deputies responded to a report of shots fired on Tammy Street at about 3 a.m. and found Fredrick Matthew Smith, 26, had been shot outside 1046 Tammy St.

Smith was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died.

Osyris Jefferson, 22, of 1625 Veanna Drive, was charged with second-degree murder in Smith's death. He was being held in the Cumberland County jail under a $1 million bond.

No information regarding a motive or what evidence led to Jefferson's arrest was released.
