FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man has been charged with shooting and killing a man at his home early Wednesday, authorities said.

Derrick Paul Randle, 32, of 5035 Doc Bennett Road, was charged with voluntary manslaughter.

Deputies responded to a report of gunfire at Randle’s home shortly before 5 a.m. When they arrived, Randle went outside, fell to the ground and surrendered.

He told investigators that his mother and Christopher Lloyd Williams were involved in an altercation and that he shot Williams trying to break it up.

Williams, 48, of Fayetteville, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died.

The shooting remains under investigation.
