— A 20-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a couple in a Fayetteville parking lot was charged Monday in what police are calling a case of road rage.

Willie James Dean was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon and simple assault. He was taken to the Cumberland County jail and will go before a judge Jan. 23, 2012.

Police say Dean, in a 1999 Dodge Caravan, was tailgating a vehicle driven by John Dees, 29, on Bragg Boulevard Monday morning. When Dees and his passenger, 24-year-old Sarah Dees, pulled into a parking lot on Sycamore Dairy Road to let Dean pass, Dean followed them, got out of his car and punched John Dees in the face.

John Dees used pepper spray against Dean, who then retreated toward his van, police said. Sarah Dees got out of the vehicle to try and get Dean's license plate information, but Dean then turned toward her.

When John Dees got out to protect his wife, Dean got into his van, put it in reverse and struck the couple, police said.

Sarah Dees only suffered minor injuries, but her husband was dragged a short distance by Dean's Caravan. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, but his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.

Dean fled the scene, but was arrested a short time later.

jwjsdj, so you've seen this exact Dodge Caravan on the Blvd? And you managed to mentally conjure the color of the Caravan because I don't think it was mentioned in the story.

Ok, I have several questions. First of all, if someone is reckless driving and you turn into a parking lot to let them by, how did you allow him to attack you? To the wife, WHY did you get out of your car to get license tag, when he already showed himself to be violent? I'm sorry, but some stuff happen because folks let things happen to themselves. those were dumb tactics. Come on now....that was a dumb move on the couples part. If they would have been me, he probably would have been under my car, or injury on my part. There is NO way this criminal would have attacked me. He would have been in Cape Fear, not me.

There is still such a thing as citizen arrest.

No such thing exists in the state of North Carolina.

"You have the right to drive as slow as you want."

Actually, there is a MINIMUM speed limit on highways. On a 55 MPH highway the minimum is 45 (except school buses, farm equipment). Below that you CAN get a ticket for "impeding"

That is why I carry and can knock pecans off fenceposts at 30yards If he came at my wife it would be sleepy time

still1, how do you know it's a case of a slow driver? The only "fast lane" Vance County has is on #1 or 85. Seems you're commenting without thinking again..tsk...tsk.

Just goes to show that pepper spray does not debilitate a combatant.

Rebelyell55, North Carolina General Statutes have no provision for citizens' arrests, every other state does. just thought you would like to know.
