FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man faces several charges after he allegedly kidnapped and raped a woman last month, Fayetteville police said Friday.

William Cummings, 51, was arrested Thursday on charges of second-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and second-degree sex offense in connection with the April 7 attack.

Police say Cummings stopped a 20-year-old woman walking in the rain along Yadkin Road and took her to his house in the 1200 block of Durden Lane, where he attacked her.

Afterward, he drove the woman to a friend's home, police said.

At the time, they said, Cummings was wearing a security guard uniform and had a firearm in his holster.

Authorities did not say if that was a factor in the case.

Cummings was in the Cumberland County jail Friday afternoon under a $150,000 bond.
