FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police closed the intersection of Grove and Ramsey streets for about two hours Monday because of a gas leak.

Two nearby businesses, Biscuit Kitchen and First Citizens Bank, also were evacuated, police said.

A backhoe digging in the area struck a gas line, police said. The gas supply to the area was cut off while a Piedmont Natural Gas crew  repaired the line.

The intersection and the businesses were reopened by about 12:30 p.m., police said.
