— A Fayetteville home is considered a total loss after a fire engulfed the building early Thursday morning.

Fayetteville firefighters responded to the residence at 121 Hillview Ave. around 4 a.m. The home was near Lucille Souders Elementary School, but the fire did not affect school activities.

People who spotted the fire and called 911 said that debris fell from the house as it burned and one caller said she was blowing her car horn in the hopes of waking anybody who may have been inside the home.

Firefighters contained the fire to the house and yard of origin. They said the home was not occupied at the time of the fire but the remains of a deceased pet were located inside.

Cumberland County officials said they served an eviction notice at the address on April 19.

Authorities said that the combined total loss from the fire is estimated to be $80,000.
