FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A historic Fayetteville figure will be featured on a new stamp next year.

Charles W. Chesnutt was an African-American author whose voice helped bring to light the issue of color in American life at the turn of the 20th century. He spent much of his youth in Fayetteville before moving to Cleveland.

The Chesnutt stamp, which will be released Jan. 31, is part of the Black Heritage stamp series.
