CLINTON, N.C. — Sampson County authorities are investigating a shooting that left a 51-year-old man dead and his 13-year-old daughter injured.

Deputies responding to a call from the injured girl's brother found the man dead inside a home at 77 Hunter Road about 7 p.m. Friday night. His name has not been released.

After forcing his way into the home and finding the 13-year-old slumped over, the girl's brother placed her in a car and proceeded to transport her to Sampson Regional Medical Center.

The girl's brother flagged down an ambulance en route on U.S. Highway 701, and it transported the girl to the hospital. Her name has not been released, but authorities said Saturday that she is in critical condition after being airlifted to a regional medical center.

According to an initial investigation, the 51-year-old man may have taken his own life.

Authorities said the incident is likely isolated to the father and daughter and is not related to any other criminal activity.

No other information was immediately available.
