Father charged in infant's death

— Police on Tuesday charged a Goldsboro man in the death of his 6-month-old daughter last week.

Ronald Everette Smith, 24, of 117 Hines Drive, Lot 8, was charged with murder and was being held without bond in the Wayne County Jail.

Diamond Nicole Smith died Friday afternoon in the pediatric intensive care unit at Pitt Memorial Hospital, in Greenville, two days after she was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital with fractured ribs and bleeding on the brain, police said.

Police said the cause of death was an abusive head injury.

    He must have been raised in a house where boys didn't touch dolls and had little exposure to babies, otherwise he might have known that you don't treat a child that way. Just goes to show that just cause you can make one doesn't mean you should and doesn't automatically make you knowledgeable about how to do it correctly. I'm sure this is not what the Bible means by suffer the little children...

    Can we say death penalty... anyone that can do this to a person should just be killed immediately... at least then we would know that there would be no chance of him getting out of prison and doing it again!!! Plus, it would finally free up some money with the taxpayers

    It was stated that he admitted to swinging the baby. Maybe he needs to be done the same way.

    Why can't we take people like him out and beat him like he allegedly beat this poor baby? He deserves the death penalty.
